EUFISERV and First Data Transaction Completes

EUFISERV Interbank Processing Business to be Relaunched as Trionis

Brussels, September 23, 2008 (AllPayNews.com) - First Data Corp., a global leader in electronic commerce and payment services announced today that it's recently announced transaction with EUFISERV and its 15 shareholders, which includes 12 European banks and banking organisations, has now been completed. To reflect the new joint ownership structure, the EUFISERV inter-bank processing business will be renamed Trionis.

Under the terms of the transaction, First Data has acquired a 50 per cent equity stake in EUFISERV's inter-bank processing business.

Ernst Verbeek, formerly vice president, Inter-bank Processing Services at First Data, and Petter N. Johansen, formerly managing director at EUFISERV, have been appointed by the shareholders, as managing director and chairman respectively. A new Board of EUFISERV will be made up of the chairman, the managing director and the following representatives from the original EUFISERV shareholders and First Data: Agustin Marquez, CECA; Bernd Fieseler, DSGV; Michel Gulikers, Fortis; Peter O'Toole, First Data; Nadeem Shaikh, First Data; Peter Vesco, First Data.

"Trionis represents a constellation" explains Ernst Verbeek, "and we chose this name as we felt it was a great reflection of our vision for our organization, in the sense that it describes the concept of building connectivity from a network in an open skies environment."

Trionis will be based in Brussels, operating out of the former EUFISERV premises. As part of the transaction Trionis' products and services will be promoted through the First Data sales-force across Europe in addition to being offered through a dedicated sales team within the Trionis organisation.

Petter N Johansen, chairman of the re-launched organisation commented "With First Data joining together with the former EUFISERV shareholders, we are now in a position to offer a unique inter-bank payment card switching service throughout the Single Euro Payments Area and beyond. We already have plans in place to expand and develop the network, formerly operated by EUFISERV".

The Trionis Network will provide extensive European coverage for its clients. The company plans to link the former EUFISERV network to First Data's network, which could enable access to up to 74,000 ATMs, 1.5m point-of-sale terminals and 165 million card accounts across Europe.

In line with SEPA requirements, the EUFISERV card scheme has already been spun off into a separate company, EUFISERV PAYMENTS SCRL, which is owned by the fifteen original EUFISERV shareholders.
