Calypso Canada Attains Mastercard EMV Approval

CALGARY, Canada, Mar 10, 2010 (AllPayNews) -- Calypso Canada, a Transaction Network Services (TNS 23.32, -0.19, -0.81%) company, has become one of the first ABM processors in the country to receive EMV approval from MasterCard, cementing its position at the forefront of Canada's drive to switch to secure EMV and Chip-certified technology.

With less than 12 months until the deadline set by the Interac Association passes, owners, operators and deployers of automatic banking machine (ABM) estates across Canada are now furiously making plans to ensure they can meet the mandate of having at least 50 percent of non-deposit-taking ABMs upgraded by the end of the year.

Doug Epp, Senior Director of Sales for Transaction Network Services Canada, said: "Canadian and international payment networks have set an aggressive target for compliance with a set of standards that create a better, more secure, network for Canadian merchants and their customers, and we are pleased to be a leader in helping the industry adopt the technologies that achieve these goals.

"The introduction of EMV and Chip-certified systems in Canada is a major step forward in making our country's ABM infrastructure stronger and more resilient against fraud.

I'm delighted that we have been awarded approval from MasterCard. This is the result of a tremendous amount of effort by our in-house team of experts, working in partnership with Moneris Solutions, and demonstrates our commitment to helping the industry move over to EMV."

The MasterCard EMV approval for Calypso Canada's PCI DSS certified ABM processing environment is the latest in a series of investments made by Calypso Canada. Last year Calypso Canada announced the Interac Association had certified its EMV Chip platform.

The MasterCard EMV certification was gained using a Triton CE SW ATM. Shaun King, Vice President of International Sales at Triton, said: "This is another step forward in Triton's goal to provide a cost-effective upgrade solution to help our customers ensure the highest level of compliance for the tens of thousands of ABMs deployed in the Canadian marketplace."

Mr Epp, added: "Calypso Canada has been ideally placed to lead the drive towards EMV, thanks to our extensive experience in this area since 2004 when we obtained European EMV certification in the UK. Since then we have supported EMV transactions for thousands of ATMs and processed millions of Chip transactions."

TNS is currently running a promotion available to all Canadian ABM deployers, which will help ISOs pay for their migration to Chip/EMV compliance.
